ENUGU: THREE COMMISSIONERS STEP DOWN AS GOV. UGWUANYI SWEARS IN TWO NEW COMMISSIONERS

by Enugu State / Thursday, 27 July 2017 / Published in News

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State yesterday carried out a cabinet reshuffle which saw three Commissioners stepping down and two new ones sworn in at the meeting of the State Executive Council.

The affected three Commissioners include Dr. Godwin Udeuhele (Commissioner for Information), Mr. Charles Ndukwe (Commissioner for Youth and Sport) and Barrister Smart Ogbe (Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs).

The two new Commissioners sworn in during the Council’s meeting include, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe who now takes charge of Information and Mr. Joseph Udedi who was deployed to the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

The changes came as a first step in the move by Governor Ugwuanyi to reorganize his cabinet and strengthen it for more efficient service delivery to the good people of Enugu State.

The new Information Commissioner, Anikwe is a veteran journalist and public communications strategist and was until his recent appointment, the Chairman of Editorial Board of BusinessDay Newspaper.

He had worked as a News Editor of the The Guardian Newspaper and later Editor of Daily Times of Nigeria.

The new Commissioner had also worked as World Bank Consultant for the Federal Inland Revenue and a number of State Governments.

He was also the Spokesperson for the Federal Government’s Committee on Power Sector Reforms, where he worked with the Presidential Taskforce on Power and the Federal Ministry of Power.

It is expected that he will bring to bear his wealth of experience on the new assignment as the spokesman of Enugu State Government.

About Enugu State

The name of the state derives from its capital city, Enugu. The word "Enugu" (from Enu Ugwu) means "the top of the hill". The first European settlers arrived in the area in 1909, led by a British mining engineer named Albert Kitson. In his quest for silver, he discovered coal in the Udi Ridge. The Colonial Governor of Nigeria Frederick Lugard took a keen interest in the discovery, and by 1914 the first shipment of coal was made to Britain.
