The wife of the Enugu State governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has stressed the need for people to acquire skills that will enable them become self-reliant and employers of labour.
Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi gave this advice during her monthly prayer rally at the Michael Okpara Square where she gave out sewing and grinding machines as well as cash to indigent women.
Reaffirming her commitment to ensuring a better living standard for everyone especially women and youths in the rural areas, she said: “Most of the people you see as tailors, hairdressers and other technicians are graduates. Certificates can no longer take us anywhere; but if you acquire skills, you not only empower yourself but others through employment.”
The Enugu First Lady enjoined the people to assist others, adding that the society will be better if Nigerians selflessly serve God and humanity. “Always strive to touch people’s lives. It gives me joy when I see people happy, that is why I try as little as I can to positively touch people’s lives especially the indigent ones. You can do same irrespective of its magnitude, you can encourage your fellow humans instead of waiting till you become affluent before you can do so,” she said.
Also speaking, an evangelist Reverend Chinyere Onuoma, advised participants at the prayer rally to always trust God and to never be weighed down by life’s challenges.
According to her, “the resurrection of our Lord Jesus brought us many benefits such as courage, peace, gift of Holy Spirit, boldness and forgiveness of our sins”.
